1. Christ of the Abyss at San Fruttuoso, Italy

The Christ of the Abyss is a bronze statue placed in 1954 on the bottom of the bay of San Fruttuoso, between Camogli and Portofino inside Portofino's Protected Natural Marine Area, Italy, 15 meters deep.

2. Kolmanskop in the Namib Desert

Kolmanskop is a ghost town in the Namib desert in southern Namibia, a few kilometres inland from the port town of Lüderitz.

4. The remains of the SS Ayrfield in Homebush Bay, Australia

The SS Ayrfield – previously known as the SS Corrimal, is (nowadays) a rusty shipwreck with dense vegetation on the surface of the wreck, it is stuck in the calm waters of homebush bay (west of Sydney, Australia) The SS Ayrfield was built in the UK in 1911 and was sent to Homebush Bay for breaking-up on 6 October 1972.

5. The abandoned Wonderland Amusement Park outside Beijing, China

Back in the mid 1990s, developers Huabin foresaw a bustling theme park attracting some three million visitors and generating 6 billion RMB ($1 billion) a year.

Crucially they had secured the backing Chen Xitong, then the Beijing Party Secretary who was being tipped to become the country's next leader.
But when Chen was jailed for corruption in 1998, his successor, perhaps scared of being tarred with the same brush, refused to support the project.

6. Fishing hut on a lake in Germany

It is located in The Berchtesgaden National Park and it is located in the southeast of Germany, in the Free State of Bavaria, adjoining the state of Salzburg in Austria. Founded in 1978, the park includes an area of 210 square kilometers and is owned by the state. Its high mountain landscapes are characterized by extensive forests and steep rock faces.

7. Holland Island in the Chesapeake Bay

Holland Island is a marshy, rapidly eroding island in the Chesapeake Bay, in Dorchester County, Maryland, west of Salisbury. The island was once inhabited by watermen and farmers, but has since been abandoned.

8. The Kerry Way walking path between Sneem and Kenmare in Ireland

The Kerry Way is a long-distance trail in County Kerry, Ireland. It is a 214-kilometre (133-mile) long circular trail that begins and ends in Killarney. It is typically completed in nine days.

9. Pripyat, Ukraine

Pripjat, or Prypjat, is an abandoned city 100 km north of Kiev in Ukraine, near the border of Belarus. The town became internationally known after the Chernobyl accident in April 1986, when one of the reactors of the Chernobyl nuclear power station exploded and massive amounts of radioactivity were released into the atmosphere and spread over large areas. Before the disaster, the city had 48,000 inhabitants. When the city was evacuated, the authorities let citizens believe that they shortly after would be returning. The city is therefore currently an uninhabitable ghost town that is decaying, but still mostly intact.

10. 15th century monastery in the Black Forest in Germany

St. George's Abbey in the Black Forest was a Benedictine monastery in St. Georgen im Schwarzwald in the southern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

11. Kalavantin Durg near Panvel, India

In India, at Kalavantin Durg there is a trek that rivals any in the world. If this geological formation was present in many other countries it would be fenced off and no one would be allowed to climb it. In India Kalvantin Durg is also called the Climb to Heaven. Take a close look at the photos, look at those totally unguarded steps. No rail on the edge and no ropes on the wall, God forbid if you have vertigo. And notice the broken steps in that one photograph. The hike to the top is 300 yards and the last 100 feet is a definite challenge for everyone. Worst of all, the hardest part is coming down..

12. The remains of the Pegasus in McMurdo Sound, Antarctica

Pegasus Field is an airstrip in Antarctica, the southernmost of three airfields serving McMurdo Station. Pegasus is a blue ice runway capable of handling wheeled aircraft year-round, and the principal Ice Runway on the sea-ice available during the summer Antarctic field season. The other two are the snow runways at Williams Field that are limited to ski-equipped aircraft. The field is named after Pegasus, a C-121 Lockheed Constellation, still visible there in the snow after crashing in bad weather on October 8, 1970. No one on board was injured.

13. Angkor Wat in Cambodia
